 Trip itinerary:

Day 1:  Saturday: Loreto Baja California

Arrive in Loreto Baja in time for our trip meeting at 5:30 PM at our hotel, The Oasis.

Day 2:  Sunday : Loreto - San Ignacio Lagoons

A van will take us to the Pacific side of Baja to the beautiful small town of San Ignacio.

This is a 3.5 - 4 hour journey with a picnic-style lunch and a chance to stretch our legs at a beautiful beach along Bahia Concepcion.

In San Ignacio, a van from the eco camp will meet us and take us to the breeding lagoons!

Sun- Wed: Whale Camp

For three nights, we will be at the eco camp at the edge of the breeding lagoons of the gray whales.  We will stay in simple ( think Baja simple) double-occupancy wooden cabins with platform beds, a sink, and enough room to store your clothes and luggage.  There is one electric outlet in each cabin and an attached private dry toilet.  You will have a porch from which you can watch the beautiful sunrise and sunsets - and look for whales.

Local guides ( pangeros) will take us twice daily into the lagoons on small boats ( pangas), where we will observe and often interact with the gray whales and their calves. (These outings are always weather depending as our highest priority is to stay safe and out of heavy winds).

Camp staff prepares tasty meals three times a day for us, and coffee, tea and hot water is available all day. Happy hour is every day from 5-6PM.

Activities will include whale watching, naturalist talks, and time to walk, sit, relax, and take in the energy of this magical place.  (There will be offerings of meditation and/or movement or Qi Gong each morning).

Wednesday: San Ignacio - Loreto

A van will take us back to San Ignacio, where we will eat lunch before heading back to Loreto.

We will arrive at The Hotel Oasis, where we will spend the next two nights, with enough time to settle into our accommodations and for everyone to enjoy dinner at a restaurant of their choice.

Thursday and Friday: Sea of Cortez ( or land-based) adventures

We will have two hald - 3/4 day trips on the Sea of Cortez on a comfortable boat providing shade and seating.

On one day we will explore the Sea of Cortez in search of blue whales, humpback whales, dolphins, and other marine mammals.

Day two, we will have swim and snorkel options ( short wetsuits are provided),  and time to explore

one of the stunning islands in this pristine marine sanctuary that has been called the Aquarium of the Sea - and the Mexican Galapagos.

The exact activities are weather-dependent.  There are several land-based adventure options for a very windy day.  A favorite one is a journey into the mountains to explore the historic town and Mission San Xavier.

Our guided trip will conclude in the afternoon, when everyone will transfer to the accommodation of their choice in Loreto.  We will meet up again for a festive dinner celebration in the evening!

Saturday: Departure day

Fly back home or continue to explore this amazing part of the world!
